(RNN) - A day after strengthening into a hurricane, Bertha was downgraded to a tropical storm on Tuesday.

As of the 5 a.m. EST advisory from the National Hurrricane Center, Bertha's sustained winds had fallen to 65 mph. The storm was moving north-northeast at 22 mph, and was not expected to threaten the East Coast.

No watches or warnings are in effect.

The forecast advisory indicated conditions were not favorable for Bertha's development. Indeed, forecasters expect the storm to weaken over the next two days as it gains speed and moves northeast over the Atlantic Ocean.
