Guatemalan woman faces up to 3 years for failure to report human smuggling

MULESHOE, TX (KCBD) - A Guatemalan woman has pleaded guilty to her part in a human smuggling operation uncovered in Muleshoe.

Lidia Gomez-Yucute, 47, pleaded guilty to a federal charge of Misprision of a Felony on Monday and she now faces up to 3 years in prison.

Her companion, Ricardo Suar-Gonzales, 30, pleaded guilty to a federal charge of Harboring of Illegal Aliens and Aiding and Abetting last month.

Muleshoe police discovered three undocumented immigrants locked in a storm cellar back in April after they were led to a home in the 200 Block of West Avenue E following an anonymous phone call.

Suar-Gonzales told authorities he locked the people inside, with food and water, because he did not receive full payment of their smuggling fee.
