Good food, bad teeth

A healthy diet is good prevention against all sorts of diseases, but aside from nutrition, sometimes, the healthiest foods can cause the most damage, when it comes to the teeth.

Dr. Robert Fields says he see's cracked teeth and chipped veneers all the time after healthy snacks, from apples and carrots to hard nuts and beans. Even cauliflower and broccoli.

"Healthy foods can break teeth, healthy foods can simply chip teeth, healthy foods can get trapped in between your teeth. As you take that bite of food, digest it, chew it slowly, digest it carefully before you take the next bite, don't be in a rush."

Dr. Fields says it's also important to floss after every meal, because food trapped between the teeth can lead to infection and decay.
