Memorial services scheduled for Stella's restaurant namesake

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

The namesake of one of Lubbock's most popular Italian restaurants has died. Stella Rizzo died Saturday at the age of 85.

She founded the original Stella's in Suffern, New York in 1973.

Her son Billy Rizzo brought the family business to Lubbock in 1998.

Billy first opened Stella's Restaurant & Deli on 14th Street across from Texas Tech, but in 2001 moved the restaurant to its current location at 50th and Utica.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday evening at 5 p.m. at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers.

A prayer celebration will follow at 6 p.m.

A tribute to Stella will be held at the restaurant at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday.
