I am once again frustrated at our state department responsible for keeping the highways mowed and in shape.
If you're driving to or from the Lubbock airport on I-27 you can't help but notice the overgrown grass and weed problem. The problem is most apparent if we get the slightest amount of rain. It's embarrassing for any guests to our city for this to be the first thing they see. That goes for businesses considering moving here, and to the 30,000 plus enrollment at Texas Tech.
That the Lubbock area has been in a severe drought for almost four years is no excuse not to have a plan to take care of our grassy right of ways.
It's like TxDOT waits for someone to complain before we see anything done.
Well if no one has, consider this an official complaint. We can't control the dust storms and unpredictable weather, but we can control our landscaping.
First impressions make a big difference and Lubbock has so much more to offer than what you see overgrowing on each side of the highway.
Let's try and get them into our great city before they've passed judgment.
