LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The Lubbock city attorney is drafting an anti-smoking ordinance to ban smoking in all indoor public places, including bars and restaurants.

West Texas Smoke Free Coalition President Matthew Harris is excited about the ordinance from City Attorney Chad Weaver.

“We have been calling on the city council for months to direct the city attorney to draft an ordinance and we're excited to hear a city council person has requested the attorney to draft an ordinance,” Harris said.

He says the city attorney needs to finalize a draft and put it on the agenda so it can be voted on.

“We don't know his timeline but we hope it's done soon,” Harris said. “The next step is for citizens to continue to call their council person and request that this be voted on soon.”

Harris says he and his group will continue to go to city council meetings and support passage of an ordinance.
