Opening of Jayne Ann Miller Elementary scheduled for January

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Excitement is building for the opening of Lubbock's newest elementary school.

Jayne Ann Miller Elementary will open in January at the South Loop and Indiana.

While that is still months away, we were able to tour the new building on Tuesday.

It features 32 classrooms, a dedicated art room, and a cafetorium - a cafeteria that can easily be turned into a performance area.

Principal Kevin Booe says, "To be entrusted with this new facility, without a doubt you feel that, you embrace that, you're excited about that, and you're looking forward to showing the community, thank you for supporting us, this is what we're doing with it."

Nearly 600 students will attend the new school.

They are from the former Murfee Elementary and Haynes Elementary schools.

Right now, students are attending classes in the Haynes building.

Principal Booe says they could start moving in to the new school between Thanksgiving and Christmas, but, he says they'll make sure that it does not interrupt teaching.
