Spurrier, staff end Gamecocks practice with ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

Steve Spurrier stood among his players ready to be doused with ice cold water.

Before his players obliged, Dylan Thompson stepped in and added one small caveat.

"We got two buckets for the best coach in the nation!" the senior quarterback exclaimed.

The Gamecocks smiled and cheered as they poured both buckets on the Head Ball Coach to end practice. However, Spurrier wasn't alone. Every member of his coaching staff and USC athletics director Ray Tanner also had a bucket of water dumped over their heads as part of the fun.

The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has been going on for quite some time now. Spurrier was challenged by Cocky on Monday and Stephen Finger, a South Carolina man diagnosed with ALS. Even being challenged previously, accepting the challenge was a little more personal for Spurrier as two of his former San Francisco teammates, Gary Lewis and Matt Hazeltine, along with quarterback Bobby Waters were diagnosed with the disease.

"It's a terrible disease," Spurrier said, "and whatever we can do to raise some money to fight it, we're going to try to do our part here."

Prior to getting soaked, Spurrier challenged Alabama's Nick Saban, Texas A&M's Kevin Sumlin and Oklahoma's Bob Stoops to take the challenge with their respective staffs.
