Food for Thought: 8/21

There are half a dozen stops on the Food for Thought list this week, but it's not all good news.

KCBD NewsChannel 11's Christy Hartin starts by dishing out the violations.

We begin at Josie's at 5101 Aberdeen. They had five critical violations.

  • Ready to eat items in the walk-in cooler were above 41 degrees.
  • Lettuce was not in good condition.
  • Ham, sausage, salsa and queso were expired or did not have a date mark.
  • There were no paper towels at a hand sink.
  • Kitchen utensils were broken or melted. The inside of the coolers were dirty. The fryer and the area around the fryer were dirty.

The report shows most of the violations were corrected during the inspection.

Next, we head to Durango's at 5004 Frankford. They had nine critical violations.

  • Cooked chicken and carne guisada were not cooling properly. This can cause bacteria to grow.
  • Several hot items were not at least 135 degrees.
  • An employee did not wash their hands before putting on gloves. An employee wiped their gloved hands on a dirty rag and on their apron.
  • An employee handled raw eggs and then a clean plate without washing their hands.
  • An employee handled tortillas with their bare hands.
  • Diced tomatoes and milk did not have a date mark.
  • Insecticide was stored in a drink station rack.
  • Kitchen utensils were broken.

The inspector notes, due to the nature and the number of the violations management did not show proper food safety knowledge.

The report shows everything was corrected at the time of the inspection.

Four stops are at the top of the list:

  • Bonus Burger at 2312 50th
  • Hub City Wings at 1902 34th
  • Raising Cane's at 5203 57
  • Sonic at 4904 at Indiana
