Frenship ISD celebrates opening of new campus

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Frenship ISD is celebrating the opening of their newest school.

Administrators, teachers and staff joined in a ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday afternoon for the new Legacy Elementary campus. It's located off of Milwaukee Avenue, just north of Erskine Street in northwest Lubbock.

Legacy is FISD's seventh elementary campus, and is the last major project from the 2007 bond election. The 116,000 square foot facility includes more than 30 classrooms, an isolated kindergarten wing, and a gym for both school and community use.

"Teachers have been working endless hours to get this building ready, endless hours, and sow we appreciate the teachers, the community, and of course our administration for their support," Principal Cheryl Booher said.

Around 250 students will start at Legacy on Monday. It's opening as a Pre-K through 2nd grade campus. Additional grades will be added during the next three years until the school has classes through 5th grade.
