(RNN) – A tropical depression in the Atlantic became Tropical Storm Cristobal Sunday morning, the third named storm of the 2014 hurricane season.

The storm boasted maximum sustained winds of 50 mph and was stationary as of 2 a.m. Monday. A tropical storm remained in effect for the central Bahamas.

Forecasters don't expect much intensification for Cristobal in the next 12 hours.

The National Weather Service's National Hurricane Center predicted as of Sunday that the storm would track north and then northeast, paralleling the East Coast before heading out into the Atlantic.

The first storm, Hurricane Arthur, made landfall on the North Carolina coast as a Category 2 storm over July 4 weekend.

Hurricane Bertha, was considered “poorly organized” and quickly dissipated into the Atlantic Ocean after drenching Puerto Rico in early August.

The 2014 Atlantic Hurricane season lasts until Nov. 30.

The NHC also warns to only trust NOAA-issued hurricane warnings and forecasts during this middle of hurricane season. Earlier this week, a fake hurricane prediction model caused a scare for several residents of Gulf Coast states.
