Bridge of Lubbock helps low-income families at Bridge Bash

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Hundreds of low-income families across the South Plains had the opportunity to pick up free clothing and school supplies on Saturday, part of the Bridge of Lubbock's Sixth Annual Bridge Bash.

Bridge of Lubbock is a privately funded, non-profit organization, funded by local organizations, families and generous community members.

Ashlei Watson, director of outreach for the Bridge of Lubbock said, "We started out with an after school program for first through 12th graders at the Bridge of Lubbock - that was back in 2001, and we noticed that the kids that were coming here, their families needed clothes, they needed food vouchers and things like that, so we decided to go ahead and open up our building for a clothing closet and we've just kind of been going ever since."

A lot of organizations and generous community members helped make this mega clothes giveaway possible.

Crews are on the scene of a fire at 24th Street and Avenue U.  Scanner traffic indicates this is possibly a vacant, single-story home. We're also hearing emergency crews received several calls from people nearby who are worried the fire could spread to their homes. There is heavy damage to the outside of the building. The Fire Marshal has been called to the scene.  KCBD has a crew on the scene and we will continue to update this story as we receive more information. ...
