Monroe drops season opener to Perry

The Golden Tornadoes are 0-1 this season following a 21-14 loss to Perry at Hugh Mills Saturday night.

The game shifted midway through the 2nd quarter when Keith Teague was unable to secure an interception. On the next play, Perry quarterback Trey Coryell completed a touchdown pass to put the Panthers up 14-6.

On the ensuing possession, Ulysses Williams, the sophomore starting quarterback threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown to make the game 21-6.

Senior Willie Jones replaced Williams at quarterback following that play. Monroe lost one of the steadier players at the position this past season with the graduation of 4-year starter Charles Stafford.
