Therapeutic Riding Center welcomes new horse won in Facebook contest

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

We're getting a first look at a new therapeutic riding horse that Texas Tech won during a Facebook contest earlier this year.

We're told this beautiful, black gypsy horse doesn't have a name yet. The Therapeutic Riding Center at Texas Tech is still deciding what will fit her best.

The university is her new home, thanks to a contest held by Lexlin Gypsy Ranch in Tennessee.

Voters decided where five horses would go, based on which businesses or schools placed in the top five.

Tech's Therapeutic Riding Center came in third place, with nearly 8,000 votes.

The center works with children and adults who have a variety of disabilities.

Right now, Tech's riding center hosts 60 people a week, and they have a list of others hoping to get in.

"This means that we can add anywhere from 30 to 60 riders per week just for one horse. She's one of 13, and we feel like we've got the best horses for this job."

Program leaders say they are always looking for volunteers.

If you are interested in helping out, their number is 792-4683.
