Greg Wortham says he's ready to represent diverse district

Greg Wortham Greg Wortham
LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Greg Wortham is the former Mayor of Sweetwater, Texas.  He left the position to run for the Texas Senate seat formerly held by Robert Duncan.

"I'm a candidate who understands the whole 51 counties," Wortham said.

Wortham has spent most of his life living and working in District 28. Born in San Angelo, his family later moved to Sweetwater where he graduated high school.

"I want to make sure we have a sophisticated senator for this region, who puts the region over the politics," Wortham said.

Wortham is no stranger to the political process.

"I worked for 2 state senators that represented large parts of this region; I was a legislative director for a senator in this region, congressional intern, worked on congressional matters as a private attorney, so a lot of different political experience," Wortham said.

He also has experience in energy, working for electric co-ops in Texas and New York. Wortham is currently Executive Director of the Cline Shale Alliance and the Texas Wind Energy Clearing House.

They're experiences Wortham says will help him represent a diverse district.

"West Texas is paying the bills for the state," Wortham said. "I think it's critically important to be able to jump in on time and not have to spend so much time learning these issues that I've lived with for decades."

Wortham joins five other candidates seeking the Texas Senate, District 28 seat.  Early voting runs through September 5th, and election day is September 9th.
