(RNN) - Hurricane Cristobal, a category 1 storm, picked up speed in the Atlantic on Tuesday.

As of the 5 a.m. EDT update from the National Hurricane Center, the storm was moving north at 12 mph, packing winds of 75 mph, making it a minimal hurricane.

The center of Cristobal was located about 610 miles southwest of Bermuda, and the storm was expected to continue moving north-northeast Tuesday with a gradual turn to the northeast.

A tropical storm watch was issued for Bermuda, as Cristobal was expected to pass to the west and north of the island on Wednesday.

Forecasters said the hurricane should strengthen some within the next two days as it continues its Atlantic journey.
