Business booming at Red Raider apparel stores

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Business is booming at Red Raider apparel stores. Owners say they're experiencing a bigger rush than normal.

Of course, fans are gearing up for Texas Tech football's season opener on Saturday.

But, this year there are also more Red Raiders now calling Lubbock home.

Back to school alone means a significant spike in business for stores like Cardinals, Red Raider Outfitter and The Matador.

A large incoming freshman class means those stores are now having to hire more workers to accommodate the rush.

But the staff isn't complaining.

"We have been so busy it's unreal," says Katie Savage with Red Raider Outfitters. "It's great!"

Steve Massengale, owner of The Matador, agrees.

"That's why we exist and over the last few weekends we have had a tremendous increase in business because everyone is coming in."

But it's not only students who are making this year so successful already.

"We deal with parents, alumni, students. They all come by and shop and get ready for the game," Massengale says.

Savage says that they've even added on a full-time position and two part-time positions to handle all their online sales.
