'Texas Rising' art project features interactive sculpture

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

As students continue their first week of class, a unique art project is taking shape on the Texas Tech campus.

It's called "Texas Rising." The sculptures are located around the new West Village dorms.

There are six different pieces and at night they light up.

The biggest sculpture has LED lights and is touch sensitive, so viewers can change the colors.

TTU Public Art Manager Emily Wilkinson said, "It's really something that brings beauty to the campus, but also gives you a lot to think about. It gives you a great place to sit and it causes people to look at the world in a different way. I think it's really important, especially on a college campus."

Crews are still working to install the remaining art pieces.

A ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for Thursday evening.
