Investigators say apartment fire was intentionally set

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Lubbock fire, medical and law enforcement agencies were called to the Woodcrest Apartments at 5402 66th Street on Sunday, in response to the report of a fire.

Lubbock Fire Rescue released this statement on Sunday:

Crews arrived to find heavy smoke conditions in one apartment. The incident was brought under control in approximately 15 minutes and did not spread past the apartment of origin.

There was one fatality associated with this incident. The Lubbock Police Department is investigating that fatality.

The apartment sustained fire damage to one bedroom and 100 percent smoke damage. The Lubbock Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire.

An investigator on the scene told KCBD that the fire appeared to be set intentionally and the death did not appear to be fire related.

The death investigation is still in progress.
