LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

For seven weeks, the word tough was thrown around through 77 of Pete's Pigskin Previews and in the end, the word tough was said 254 times by our area high school coaches.

Out of thousands of entries for the Tough Talk Contest, Cody Nelson ended up winning with a perfect guess of 254.

"Well I have to give the credit to my wife. She signed us up and asked me what number I wanted to use. I threw 254 out there, real random. I wish I had some better scientific method to it. Just glad you guys put it on really appreciate it," Nelson said.

Cody won a mini iPad, a week's membership to CryoBoost and hamburgers for a year from Fuddruckers.

Chase Tidwell also guessed 254, but the tiebreaker was who entered the contest first and Cody entered four days before Chase, who picked up consolation prizes from CryoBoost and Fuddruckers.

In all, 65 of the 77 area high school football coaches said tough at least once. Denver City's Coach Steve Taylor said tough 23 times in his preview. Guesses ranged from three up to 4,500.

Of the coaches who entered, Slaton's Chad Terry guessed 268.

But Cody Nelson wins Tough Talk.

"I'm a paramedic firefighter. It's tough, tough sometimes. Would have been neat seeing a coach win. Sorry they didn't," Nelson said.
