Police divers find Texas officer's wallet, badge

Posted: Updated:

BELTON, Texas (AP) - Members of a police dive team practicing at a Central Texas lake have found a wallet and badge lost by an officer more than 10 years ago.

The Temple Daily Telegram (http://bit.ly/Yemukt ) reports the items have been returned to now-former Belton police Officer Nick Olson.

Belton police Chief Gene Ellis said Tuesday that the wallet was discovered July 14 at Lake Belton by the Morgan's Point Resort dive team. Olson lost the wallet in the water near a boat ramp while he was working on a motor.

Ellis says Olson, who now works for a private company, was allowed to keep the badge as a memento.

Morgan's Point Resort is a town of about 4,200 located near Lake Belton, where dive team members train twice per month.
