SUV crash knocks out power in NW Lubbock

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Lubbock police say a driver suffered moderate injuries Thursday evening when he crashed his SUV into a utility pole on Erskine Street near Memphis Avenue.

The accident happened around 5:30 p.m.

Officers on the scene tell us the driver suffered a seizure. The driver was taken to UMC. No other injuries were reported, but police did have to block traffic in the area due to downed power lines.

Several LP&L customers reported powers outages to KCBD. On our Facebook page, viewers reported no power at the Walmart on 4th and Frankford, along with the United and McDonalds at 4th and Slide.

According the LP&L outage map, nearly 3,200 customers were immediately affected.

LP&L Representative Matt Rose says the wreck knocked out part of their power grid, leaving about 300 customers without power as of 6:30 p.m. 

LP&L says they restored 85 percent of service within 30 minutes.
