During a Double T Varsity Club tailgate earlier today, a group of former Texas Tech athletes had the chance to honor a woman who has generations of players.
Jennie Bailey has worked for Texas Tech athletics for 28 years. During this time, she developed close relationships with the athletes she works with.
They call her "Mama Bailey."
In March 2013, Bailey was diagnosed with a brain tumor and has seen an overwhelming amount of support from her Red Raider family.
Just last week a group of her close friends raised about $10,000 for her when they auctioned off a Baron Batch painting.
At the tailgate today, organized by Double T Varsity Club director Rodney Allison, the former letter winners raised even more donations to support Bailey.
"She just touched so many lives and was the mother figure for so many of those football players," Allison said, "and made such an impact on them, they've come to support her."
A fund has been set up for Bailey at First Capital Bank on Indiana Ave. Donations can be mailed or submitted in person.
