A new study released today finds kids watching sports on tv are exposed to dangerous or violent programming. Not during the game, but during the commercials. Here's what they found after analyzing nearly 1,2000 commercials that aired during a years' worth of sporting events on tv.
"Of those 322 commercials breaks that we evaluated, nearly half, 49% displayed at least one commercial with either unsafe behavior or violent content," says Dr. Robert Tamburro, a lead researcher.
The study is in the Journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics and it warns parents that even though sporting events are considered family viewing, don't assume the commercials are appropriate for kids.
