TX Attorney General Hosts Family Summit In Lubbock

The state wants you to have a healthy marriage. Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott held a Healthy Marriage, Fragile Families, and Responsible Fatherhood Summit on Tuesday at a Lubbock church.

While there, Abbott talked about the importance of raising children with two married parents. In 2002, more than 67,000 Texas children were affected by divorce. One San Angelo couple told those in attendance how the healthy families program encouraged them to get married after seven years and three kids.

"I've had a caseworker for five years who's wonderful, who's more like a family friend than just a caseworker. She's wonderful, she's helped me through a lot too, she's taught me patience with him," said Jessica Amador, a Healthy Families participant.

Abbott eventually hopes the program will help local agencies work together to create and maintain healthy marriages.
