Breast Cancer Drug Showing Positive Results

A new drug is showing better results at preventing the return of breast cancer than the drug currently used. Researchers say Arimidex could prevent the recurrence of 70% to 80% of the most common type of cancers that occur in women after menopause.

Tamoxifen has been the gold standard after surgery for patient's whose breast cancers depend on estrogen to grow. But now, a study presented at this week's San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium suggests that a five year follow up shows Arimidex increased survival by more than 10% compared to Tamoxifen.
