Lubbock Drivers Make Difference In Food Drive With Hummers

If they could ask Santa for one wish, the South Plains Food Bank would want everyone to make a donation to the "U-Can Share" food drive.

In the past three days the community of Lubbock has contributed 227,000 pounds of food. Transporting thousands of pounds of cans from local schools to the Market Street collection site is a challenge of its own. It's a task big enough for the Marines but currently being handled by several Lubbock volunteers.

"They used to have the Marines do it in their hummers but those guys are out fighting for something a little more important for all of us. So, it was easy for us to step in and do it also," Brad Salley said.

The South Plains Food Bank is hoping for at least 575,000 pounds of food and $125,000 this year.
