78-year-old killed in wreck in Northwest Lubbock

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

A 78-year-old woman has died after a wreck in Northwest Lubbock.

Lubbock Police Sergeant Robert Hook said it happened at Noon Tuesday in the 4700 block of 4th Street.

Hook says 78-year-old Serapia Rodriguez, driving a 2001 Buick Regal, was turning out of BBVA Compass Bank to drive east when she failed to yield and hit 42-year-old Betty Newsome, who was driving a 2008 Dodge Nitro.

Both women were taken to UMC where Rodriguez was pronounced dead. Newsome's injuries were not life-threatening.

Hook said there is no reason to believe alcohol or drugs were a factor.
