Memorial For Former TTU Basketball Player Set for Friday

Friday, friends and family will remember a former Texas Tech basketball player who died in a head-on collision Saturday.

Ray Irvin, who played for Tech from 1983 to 1986, was killed Saturday night after a driver going the wrong way on Highway 87 hit his vehicle head-on. The wrong-way driver, Santos Zamano, died at the scene.

DPS officials believe Zamano was intoxicated, but toxicology reports will not be back for another week.

There will be a memorial service for Irvin at First Christian Church, at 2323 Broadway on Friday afternoon at 2pm. There is also a scholarship fund set up in Irvin's name. Donations can be sent to the Red Raider Club, P.O. Box 43021, Lubbock, 79409.
