New Device Eliminates Finger Prick For Diabetics

While checking blood glucose is part of the daily routine for a diabetic, new technology could end those finger sticks, with a mini device slipped just under the skin.

Biomedical researchers at Case Western Reserve University have developed a prototype of a "sliver sensor," a monitor that slides into the skin much like a sliver does. The sensitive device is visible through the skin, and changes color to indicate fluctuation in blood sugar levels, ranging from orange for low glucose levels to dark blue indicating high glucose levels.

Human testing of the device is expected next year.
