Dozens of volunteers helped box up Christmas cheer Saturday at the South Plains Food Bank. Volunteers pack about 500 food boxes at the food bank. 548,000 pounds of food was donated last week in the U-Can-Share food dive; in addition to more than $89,000. The food will help feed more than 8,900 families this month.
"We have volunteers from different groups and people here to help us and we couldn't' do it without those volunteers," said David Weaver, executive director of the South Plains Food Bank.
Volunteers are still needed to help distribute the food boxes. Distribution will be this Tuesday,Wednesday and Thursday. To help, call the food bank at 763-3003.
The South Plains Food Bank also provided food boxes at the Salvation Army Saturday. Dozens of Lubbock area families picked up the Christmas dinners, which included chicken and canned goods.
