Five Injured in Head-on Collision

DPS officials say a drunk driver hit a car head-on sending a family of five to the hospital. Two of them are fighting for their life.

The accident happened just after 3:30 a.m. Sunday on I-27 in Abernathy. DPS officials say 37 year-old Keitha Lucus was driving the wrong way on I-27 when she collided head-on with a car. Jaws of life was used to free all five people from the car. They were transported to Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, two of them by Aerocare.

Forty year-old David Davila and 9 year-old Diamond are listed in critical condition. 11 year-old Paul Anthony is listed in serious condition. Forty one year-old Mary Davila, who is pregnant, and 10 year-old Jonathan are listed in fair condition.

Lucus, the driver of the suburban, was taken to the Hale County Jail. She has been charged with driving while intoxicated.
