The Lubbock Police Department said dozens of wrecks were reported Wednesday, and they expect that number to grow.

One crash on the NorthWest Loop around 8am Wednesday morning involved a car and a light pole. The driver in that accident crash told authorities he lost control after a truck sped by, throwing a blanket of snow on his windshield. That's when he ran his car into a light pole, knocking it down, and blocking Westbound traffic for more than an hour.
Flashing blue, red and white lights were at each intersection of South Loop 289 as Lubbock Police assisted dozens of drivers. Traffic was backed up in several areas on the Loop, as tow trucks removed vehicles from medians.
Police estimate about 100 accidents have taken place since midnight Wednesday.
