An explosion mysteriously goes off in Southwest Lubbock, injuring two people. The Lubbock Sheriff's Office got a call, just after 5 p.m. Thursday afternoon, that an explosion went off in a cotton gin near FM 1585 and Frankford.
The original call stated an old cannon might have gone off. As a result, ATF agents say two middle-aged males were taken to University Medical Center, Aerocare transported one who has serious injuries. Lubbock Police, the bomb squad, ATF, DPS, one US Marshall and the Woodrow Fire Department all assisted in the investigation at one point. Officials aren't sure what caused the explosion or what exploded, that's why they were out well past 9:30 Thursday night with lights searching and that's why they treated it as a crime scene. Lubbock ATF Officer, Felix Garcia said, "This may have been an accident, but it also very easy could've been another type situation like criminal intent and we want to make sure we find out exactly what happened."
Garcia said several witnesses were around at the time, they kept those people at the scene for questioning. The various entities frequently work together, which allows them to preserve the crime scene in a much quicker manor. That will be helpful in case this does turn into a crime, rather than an accident.
