Which Weight Loss Plan Really Works?

This could put a wrinkle in your New Year's resolution if it includes a weight loss plan.

Researchers compared the safety and benefits of a bunch of popular weight loss plans, including Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig and L.A. Fitness,  and found just one that had evidence to support its weight loss claims....Weight Watchers.

The study was conducted by the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. It's published now in the Annals of Internal Medicine. The report is actually geared to doctors to help them better guide their patients.

"This study provides doctors the best information to date about the different types of programs that are available to consumers and about the cost of these programs and how effective they may be," says Dr. Tom Wadden, with the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.

Many of the programs were found to be expensive, or they had high drop-out rates, or carried a big yo-yo risk. In other words, people would lose a bunch of weight then gain it all back again as soon as they'd get off the program.
