There are no low performers this week, but a Lubbock Italian favorite is at the top along with America's favorite drive-in. We've also got a top performer that's brand new to Lubbock and you might want to make them your next stop for breakfast or lunch.
|Food for Thought 1.6|
There's nothing to hide in one of the newest kitchens in downtown Lubbock. Chef Matt Britton's restaurant called La'Bowski's occupies the old Omni Grill at 1205 13th Street and had a flawless health inspection. Now if you're thinking the name of the restaurant sounds familiar, your right. If you've seen the movie "The Big Lebowski," the rug hanging from the wall might look familiar. Matt explains, "We could call it the stunt rug from The Big Lebowski.. They used it on promo shots things of that nature."
When asked why The Big Lebowski, Matt says the movie could tell the story of his life. But what the movie doesn't tell is the years of experience Matt has in the restaurant biz. He says, "I do a lot of personal catering for people in their homes and cooking lessons and I needed a kitchen to cook out of so I came and found this place and it had everything for a full restaurant. I figured I'd make a go of it."
Matt says he's trying to bring an eclectic nitch to Lubbock where the breakfast or lunch crowd can get a quick bite to eat, in a relaxed setting, with an atmosphere as unique as the artwork on the walls. Matt says, "I just want it to be a not in your face morning spot, a place to collect yourself and get your day going." At La'Bowski's the cuisine is made fresh each day and Matt all but guarantee's you'll love it saying, "The prices are reasonable, not too expensive. Come in for the atmosphere. If you don't like it, I'll buy your meal."
Lebowski's share's the spotlight with two other restaurants this week. Orlando's at 2402 Avenue Q also had a perfect health inspection last week. The Sonic at 101 North University can say the same. They are our third and final top performer.
