Local Business Sending Aid to Tsunami Victims

$180,200 and counting. That's how much money the "From Lubbock with Love," tsunami relief fund has raised so far. The challenge is to raise $1 million. The money will be distributed to Breedlove Dehydrated Foods, the Salvation Army and the American Red Cross.

On Thursday, Breedlove's General Manager David Fish left for a trip to one disaster site. He will make a stop in New York City where a Fed-Ex plane stocked with water filtration systems, medical supplies and Breedlove food will leave JFK Airport and head to Sri Lanka. He will then meet up with Heart to Heart International and get first hand knowledge of how Breedlove's food is helping feed victims in both Sri Lanka and Thailand.

"We gather all the proponents, we put the food together and ship it out and once it leaves Lubbock, we don't hear or see from it for two or three months and this gives us an opportunity to be more proactive rather than reactive," said Fish.

He says the first hand knowledge will help Breedlove run its plant more efficiently. It also helps you understand where your donations are going.
