Monday is the day many Tulia residents and the media have been waiting for: the perjury trial of Tom Coleman is set to begin, but not if the defense has its way.
Coleman is the discredited undercover agent in the 1999 Tulia drug busts. His trial has been scheduled to take place Monday, but on Friday, Coleman's lawyers sought to have the special prosecutors in the case removed, on the grounds that proper legal procedure is not being followed.
That hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m., just 30 minutes before the trial is set to begin. Prosecutors say the motion is simply an attempt to delay the trial.
