In the kitchen is where we find this weeks Teacher You Can Count On. She is the hospitality educator at Coronado High School. For Mary Jane Sampson, teaching is just as much about giving as it is receiving, and education is her primarry goal. And, this Coronado teacher has been making headlines in past weeks with her involement with helping Hurricane Katrina evacuees.

Lubbock has received nearly 800 evacuees. 771 people flew to Lubbock on eight different chartered planes. Around noon, Friday, the city learned there would be no more planes flying from Texas before the storm.

The Peddler's Show, scheduled for this weekend at the Civic Center, has been cancelled to make room for Hurricane Rita evacuees.

This morning two planes of 100 evacuees landed at Preston Smith International airport. At this time, officials estimate about 800 evacuees are in Lubbock. They began arriving Thursday at 6 p.m. from Houston. We're told some flight passengers were Louisiana that were staying in Houston. Some of the evacuees are "special needs" passengers. This means the elderly, some require walkers and wheelchairs.
