NewsChannel 11 had told you for weeks this was coming in January, new dietary guidelines from the Department of Health and Human Services and the Agriculture Department.
So this was a big deal in Washington Wednesday, but really there were no big surprises, just common sense advice. Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson says the trick to losing weight is "eat less and exercise more."
"We have a real problem of people that are obese and overweight in this country and we all have to do a better job of controlling our own individual weights and also being able to do what we possibly can to get this message out across America," says Thompson.
Specifically the new recommendations include: eating four and a half cups of fruits and vegetables a day along with three ounces of whole grains, three cups of milk products and limit your fats, sugars and salt.
