MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

From iced over runways to canceled flights, Memphis International Airport is being hit hard by inclement weather.

Like hundreds of other passengers, Arthur Carver and his wife found out through text message alert their flight to Virginia was among the ones canceled. But after re-booking, he was hit with another cancellation.

"When can we fly out of here, everything has been canceled, the first Wednesday," said Carver.

As many passengers wait inside to find when they can fly out, maintenance crews are outside working to clear the runway so planes can fly out.

Planes are being sprayed down with de-icer treatment before heading to the runway and crews are out on the runways checking for ice patches and debris.

A US Airways flight was stranded on the runway for hours as crews worked to de-ice the runway around it.

With more than 80 flights cancellations on Monday, air travel may require one of the most powerful virtues - patience.

"We will probably get into Brazil, best chance, Wednesday morning," said Eduardo Peilo.
