Cotton Still Smolders After Weekend Fire Near Smyer

Cotton continues to smolder Monday following a weekend fire at a cotton gin near Smyer.

The fire broke out just before 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Citizens Co-Op Gin. Five fire stations responded to the blaze. Nearly 100 cotton modules were burned in the fire. Damage estimates are approaching $200,000. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
