The "From Lubbock With Love" fund received another large donation, this time from an ambitious elementary school.
Students, parents and staff at Preston Smith Elementary collected $2,300 to give to the American Red Cross. The donations came pouring in for the last two weeks, after the principal sent a letter asking parents to encourage their children to get involved in relief efforts.
"I think a lot of conversations took place in homes. Kids have been having hot chocolate sales, Kool-aid sales, all kinds of things. Some kids made goals and said they would give up Coke for a day or a week or a month, and then the money started rolling in," said Preston Smith Principal Jim Andrus.
The donation will be added to the "From Lubbock With Love" campaign. The organization is hoping to collect $1 million from Lubbockites by February 14th.
