The Texas Senate will conduct a sweeping review of the state's troubled crime labs. The Department of Public Safety's DNA crime lab was closed for three months in 2003, after an internal review revealed several problems. In 2004 an article in the Houston Chronicle spoke about trouble in several crime labs, including Lubbock's lab.
In addition to reviewing the labs, legislators are also considering whether to create state-wide standards for how criminal evidence is tested.
