Source: LubbockOnline Source: LubbockOnline

Unfortunate news for a Lubbock family awaiting word of a missing relative.

78-year-old Elmer Lee Hayes was reported missing last Sunday. Early Tuesday afternoon, authorities in New Mexico found his body on an Indian reservation in Albuquerque. Hayes' pick up truck was found a mile and a half away.

Authorities believe Hayes may have walked away from his truck. The cause of death is under investigation, but Lubbock Police say there is no sign of foul play. "The authorities in New Mexico indicated to us that no it did not appear there was any foul play so it may have been natural causes...weather related or something like that, said Assistant Chief of Police Thomas Esparza

This investigation has been turned over to federal authorities.
