Lubbock and Texas Tech researchers are teaming up to tackle the West Texas wind.
Constant winds can create wear and tear on the city's more than 800 traffic poles. Strong winds have even been blamed for two light poles snapping in half in recent years.
Thursday, the city council voted to allow the city to work with Texas Tech to help find better ways to protect our poles against windy weather. The wind study could begin as early as next week

In the past, winds in West Texas have been recorded gusting up to 70 miles an hour, but it's the lesser, constant daily winds that can cause big problems, especially to traffic poles.
