The United Way is within 1% of reaching its goal. An additional $140,000 has been pledged since the campaign's last report in November.
The non-profit agency is able to raise all this money thanks to numerous volunteers. Thursday, United Way honored Lubbock ISD Board Member Vernita Woods-Holmes for her lifetime of community service.
LISD's United Way Coordinator Skip Watson was also recognized as campaign volunteer of the year. Since 1993, LISD has raised more than $2.3 million for United Way agencies.
