Kaiser Permanete Stops Prescribing Arthritis Drug Bextra

The drug Bextra is still on the market for arthritis pain, but the nation's largest non-profit managed health care provider has decided to stop prescribing the controversial medication.

Kaiser Permanete, which serves some 8.5 million patients, made the decision after what it calls "compelling" evidence shows there is a heart risk associated with Bextra. So, starting Tuesday, Kaiser doctors and pharmacies will stop prescribing and dispensing Bextra.

This marks the first time ever that Kaiser has stopped dispensing a drug even though it is FDA approved.
