Governor Rick Perry named education an emergency issue in the state legislature. A new poll shows Texas voters agree. Results from the Texas State Teacher's Association Poll were unveiled in Lubbock Tuesday. 42% said education was the most important issue for the state government.
The poll also supports proven educational programs over alternatives. "They feel like we're making progress with the reforms we've had over the last two decades and they'd like to see public funds, tax dollars to continue those reforms," Cherie Jenkins, a teacher at Isles Elementary said.
900 Texas voters were polled in this survey.
