The South Plains cotton crop is making headlines across the nation. USA Today featured the Olton Co-Op Gin on the front page of Wednesday's "Money" section. The gin expects to produce 86,000 bales of cotton this year--two and a half times the number they ginned last year.
The South Plains produces about nearly two-thirds of the state's cotton crop. And this year, the South Plains expects a record harvest of 4.6 million bales. That's about twice the size of last years's. The entire state of Texas is forcasting to harvest 7.5 million bales.
